The Best Travel REsources

oh boy, traveling is so expensive..

It doesn’t need to be, you know?

Many of my friends think I won the lottery since I travel this much. But they couldn’t be further away from the truth. I didn’t win the lottery and neither is my crap made of gold or oil. The real truth is that traveling doesn’t need to be expensive. As example, I traveled for 5 months in Europe with a total budget of €250.

Of course it all depends on the way you travel and plan. But if you love to travel and have time you actually don’t need any money. There are so many ways to see the world that it basically cost not money anymore.

When I first started traveling, I wasn’t aware of the many possibilities and resources that could make my travels easier. The good news is that I collected all of the best ones for you. I’ve spend hours and hours to find the best & cheapest accommodation, tools, tickets & so much more. So, I’m quite knowledgeable when it comes down to the best resources to plan your travels. I’m happy to share my collection of resources & tools, to make your life a bit easier.

I hope these resources inspire you to plan your own adventures & travels. May your wildest dreams come trough.

Accommodation

HOSTELWORLD

Your biggest money-saver. When it comes down to accommodation, this is my first choice. Depending on what country, they offer the cheapest accommodation one can find. I even stayed in hostels for €2/night. Very accurate user ratings!

COUCHSURFING

This used to be a golden tool. People offer you a free place to sleep for the goal of exchanging cultural experiences and views. I used this a lot in the past and it helped me out several times when I did not found a place to overnight. However, it turns more and more into the next tinder.

AIRBNB

I use Airbnb for my longer stays. This helps me to have more piece of mind, as I like having a basecamp. It’s a great platform as you’re able to book either a spare bed or room or an entire villa. It’s also a great way to live like a local.

Save €25 and use this coupon.

BOOKING

The place for booking more luxurious hotels. There are no hidden fees. Personally I only book hotels when I’m kind of sick and need to recover from an illness. Book the hotels through their app, as it’s way easier that way.

Alternatives:

  • Agoda (Asia)

Work Your Way Around

WORKAWAY

Your content goes here. Edit or remove this text inline or in the module Content settings. You can also style every aspect of this content in the module Design settings and even apply custom CSS to this text in the module Advanced settings.

TRUSTED HOUSESITTERS

House sitting is an amazing way to live as a local. It gets you some benefits as well, like free housing. I love this concept a lot! As taking care for pets is more like a dream rather than work to me. The only downside is the one time annual fee.

HELPX

The best alternative for workaway. They both share a lot of the same hosts. And even though it hasn’t have a a good user interface and design, it’s still worth it to use this platform.

WWOOF

A platform to volunteer, mainly at farms. The Principe is the same as Workaway. I only would recommend this platform if you’re going to stay in a country for a longer time, as you need to pay by country for this platform.

Getting Around

You can also rent your own car at rentalcars.com.

GOOGLE MAPS

Probably the most used app for driving around & catching public transport. It’s simple and easy. I use it when I’m panicking, after I get lost once again by my old school map.

ROME2RIO

The easiest way to discover how to get from point A to point B. All the various transportation vehicles are combined to plan the best route.

MAPS ME

The best offline maps app for free at the moment. Quite handy when you have no data or internet available.

UBER

For most travelers a great resource to get around. With live tracking there is no more deception with long routes which taxi drivers dare to do.

R.I.P. Taxi drivers.

RAIL EUROPE

The source for traveling around in Europe by train. There are over 50 train companies working together to provide an excellent train network. This site has everything, from a trip planner to rail passes.

Blogging Resources

BLUEHOST

My first choice for hosting any website. My issues & problems are solved immediately, thanks to their live support system. They offer different packages depending on your needs. If you’re just starting, the basic plan will do the work.

SITEGROUND

Siteground is a bit cheaper then Bluehost. But they are providing the same levels of services and support. Their is no right or wrong between those 2 hosting providers. I tested them both out & concluded there is no much difference between them.

GODADDY

The place to buy and store your domains. It’s best to use it as your domain center. I would advise to not buy your domain with your hosting provider, it guarantees trouble when you want to change it later.

VPN

To secure your connection from anywhere in the world. Complete privacy while browsing the web.

TAILWIND

Every blogger in the business should check out this tool. There is no easier way to schedule and manage your social media than with Tailwind.

BACKUPBUDDY

Magazines, Channels & Reviews

LONELY PLANET

Because of their extensive network of travelers, Lonely Planet has the best guides. The few times I use a guide book, it’s one of lonely planet. Just be sure you use it as a guide, and still follow your own way/path.

NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC

TRIPADVISOR

WIKITRAVEL

Insurance & Visa

VISA HQ

For a small fee, Visa HQ sorts out everything you need for getting your VISA. No need to go to the embassy and do all of the paperwork yourself this way.

WORLDS NOMAD INSURANCE

The best & most trusted insurance provider in the business. It’s made by travelers for travelers. World Nomads is flexible and kind of cheap. They got you covered by a lot more activities than other insurances do. You can book your insurance and claim it online from anywhere & anytime, even when you’re already hitting the road.

IVISA

The user friendliest platform to check, apply and receive the visa you need.

COLUMBUS DIRECT

A great alternative for World Nomads. Especially a good insurance for backpackers & globetrotters with a drive for adventure. They do cover a lot of sports.

 Money

XE CURRENCY

Currency Exchange is something you need to be aware of all the time, otherwise you can end up buying $20 coffee.

PAYPAL

I don’t like to use Moneygram, Western Union & other similar shady platforms. I don’t feel in control with them, when sending money. But PayPal I trust for my online business and money transfers, as they have a decent refund policy. Amazing platform to send & receive (international) online payments.

Photo Editing

ADOBE LIGHTROOM

The most used software / editing tool for all of your pictures. It’s a great tool to organize your pictures as well.

Ebooks, Guides & Research

VAYABLE

An amazing resource for local guides. No matter where you are, there is always something to do and explore this way!
