My passion is understanding how technology can create more sustainable destinations and help preserve cultural heritage while also improving the traveler's experience. I've worked in customer experience (CX) and digital technologies for over 20 years, and have traveled to nearly 70 countries. During my travels, I noticed that cultural sights were getting more crowded, the infrastructure was not keeping up with demand and the customer experience was continually deteriorating.
So I decided to apply my knowledge of technology and CX to help improve cultural heritage preservation and tourist experiences of these sights. I believe that with corrective actions by destinations, sustainable trip planning, and innovation preservation technlogy and techniques, we can reverse these negative trends and improve the economic impact on on the local community, preserve the sights and create a better experience for the visitor.
I visited the temple complex in Ayutthaya, the former capital of the Kindom of Siam (now Thailand) and a UNESCO World Heritage Site (above) in 2022 to see how The World Monuments Fund and Fine Arts Department of Thailand have worked to preserve it after it was damaged by flooding in 2011. The project includes repairing the temple's walls, restoring the merus (ornate spires), and creating a water management plan.
