I actually didn't take my kids on this trip, but it was one of the most unique experiences I've ever had, so I'm including it here. Frankly, the Fez Medina (ranked at #11 in Lonely Planet's Ultimate Travel Guide - ahead of Petra and Sagrada Familia), was one of the most astonishing places I've ever been - it's a working medieval city and just far enough off the tourist map, that you feel like you've actually discovered something that no one else has seen. That coupled with Chefchaouen ("the blue city"), made this an unforgettable trip!

Turkey seems to still fly a bit under the radar with US tourists, but it's one of safest, most beautiful places we've been. We went to Istanbul for the history and mosques and then to Cappadocia for the underground cities and balloon rides and finished up in Fethiye at a beautiful beach resort.
