After traveling to over 60 countries and hundreds of destinations, I realize that I'm not only observing over-tourism, I'm contributing to it. So I'm helping to develop ways to both minimize the impact of tourism and maximize the travel experience through technology. Read my artciles on how Virtual Travel is Becoming a Reality, how AI is Changing Travel Experiences and how technology is creating The Road Less Traveled (Upon).
Per the UN Tourism Office, Sustainable Development is "Tourism that takes full account of its current and future economic, social and environmental impacts, addressing the needs of visitors, the industry, the environment and host communities"
Destinations need to compete in the global tourism market for the right types of travelers that ensure continued sustainability in their unique market.
Ethical and sustainable tourism can make a meaningful contribution to people’s lives and our planet.
Tourism is both highly vulnerable to climate change while at the same time contributing to it. Threats for the sector are diverse, including direct and indirect impacts such as more extreme weather events, increasing insurance costs and safety concerns, water shortages and biodiversity loss.
